Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

We should focus on improving the mileage from the rather than crash rating. We have the technology to put man on the moon and send rovers to mars but I do not believe that we cannot get 60 or 100 miles per gallon from a car...

Vehicle safety - is that all the government is worried about??? How about reducing the price of gas... how about forcing the auto industry to up the exaggerated MPG they send the cars out with... Since the long lines in the 70s, cars have not gotten any more fuel efficient in over 30 years... Still the ignorant car manufacturers advertise more trucks on the TV than anything...

You won't need to worry about car crashes and fatailites if no one can afford to fill up the tank...

Man - how many more people are going to lose their jobs because of this oil crisis???

How many government officials are laughing to the bank... Funny that all this has come about as soon as Bush is ready to leave office... Isn't the Bush family heavy in the oil business??

And who is really raising the prices - I have heard that it is OPEC, then I hear it is the speculators (who the he_— are they?) - who is doing it and why are these prices riseing???

What is wrong with all you people. All this technology just raises the cost of the new cars. Tell me again how many accidents ABS was to prevent, or high mounted brake lights. Why do I need anti roll over technology on my car? I have never ever seen a car on the street do such a thing. Why on earth are our auto makers trying to sell things we don't need. They want the government to force this stuff on us so they can sell it. Just like the new light bulbs. That is why the auto insurance companies want to sell you all this stuff to survive the crashes, but don't think its worth trying to teach drivers how to prevent accidents. They say drivers training doesn't work. NO there is no profit in it. They would loose money. They want you to have accidents so they can raise your rates. I personally have seen no reason to have an "accident"(truely that is when a meteorite hits your car.), or unintended collision with another vehicle in over 45 years There are now a lot of professional courses from good drivers trainers that can and do make a big difference. The general public has no skills at driving at all. They would be shocked to see what people are doing at the wheel of their cars. How can anyone be serious that it is okay to talk on a cell phone and drive? Here the insurance companies have a chance to help. No longer cover peoples accidents that occur while there cell phone is in use. This would protect the insurance companies and put the responisbilities on the ones it belongs on. I have trained drivers from all over the world. Most drivers are really bad. Kids are bad, old folks are bad, cops are bad, truckers have become bad. When are we going to take back the right to drive, and return the roads to good drivers? All of these electronic aids are not going to protect me from the ass in the BMW or Lexus, who has all the gadgets from thinking he is invincable. I have watched for years all the idiots with these performance cars come out to the tracks to get lessons from a small community of really talented people. They teach many people how to operate cars that they should never have bought. The have the idea that all the electronic gadgets will save them. What is needed now is cars that aren't driven. All this safety stuff would not be needed. Plug in the GPS location desired and let the tracking system take over. My point is that it is long past time for people in this country to be require to pass a serious drivers training program to get on the roads. The one in place by the Insurance requirements is a joke.

I believe the prices are due to increased demand as most notably India and China are industrializing right now.

As far as vehicle safety, I've never seen a report that justifies the cost of ABS (automatic braking system), in fact, I've never seen a report that shows that a car so equipped actualy does better in damage, injury, or death than a car that does not have it. What does ABS cost per car, maybe $500 or even $1,000? That is worth a few fill-ups.
