Barack Obama's presidential campaign has requested information from Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd as part of its search for a possible vice presidential candidate.
Why doesnt Sen. Obama select Caroline Kennedy.
Hypocrite, Criticize Countrywide and then consider Dodd, who received special deals from them. New kind of poitician? B.S. Hillary Clinton deserves to be asked. What is Obama afraid of, maybe having someone more qualified then he to be his VP. Why doesn't ask Caroline Kennedy, she would be not threat what-so-ever and is even less qualified then he is. This country is going down the tubes.
It is so funny to me to hear Hillary supporters complain of Obama's lack of experience! ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING is better than the experience of GW. Give Obama time to find someone with the experience AND passion he is looking for. I have complete faith he will make the right decision--and that will NOT include Hillary as no. 2.
OBAMA/(NOT CLINTON) '08
Dear Mom of 1- Explain to me why Obama is more qualified then Clinton to be President-
Real reasons. Not because he gives good speeches, But, real concrete reasons. And then convince me why I should vote for someone, who said one thing to win the primary and then changed his positions on almost every issue now that he is the nominee. We are electing a President not a Rock Star!!
Frank,
Explain to me why Clinton is more qualified than Obama to be president. Real reasons, not I have experience because she has never held the position of President of the United States before, either. Concrete answers that can be proved. Fact and not Opinion. Then, tell me why I should vote for someone who constantly lied during the primaries.
As for Obama, please state what he said, " to win the primary and then changed his positions on almost every issue now that he is the nominee." Here let me help you a little:
No change with Iraq.
OBAMA HAS CONSISTENTLY SAID HE WILL LISTEN TO COMMANDERS ON THE GROUND IN IRAQ
July 03, 2008
June 2008: Obama: I've Consistently Said That I Will Consult With Military Commanders On The Ground And Be Open To The Possibility Of Tactical Adjustments. Obama said, "I've also consistently said that I will consult with military commanders on the ground and that we will always be open to the possibility of tactical adjustments. The important thing is to send a clear signal to the Iraqi people and most importantly to the Iraqi leadership that the U.S. occupation in Iraq is finite, it is gonna be coming to a foreseeable end." [MSNBC, 6/16/08] March 2008: Obama Said He Would Give Senior Military Leaders Opinions Great Weight In Implementing His Iraq Plan But As Commander In Chief Would Make His Own Assessment Of The Situation.
March 2008: Obama Said The Size Of The Residual Force Will Depend On Consultation With Military Commanders And "Will Depend On The Circumstances On The Ground." [Washington Post, 3/2/08] November 2007: Obama Said He Would Leave Residual Troops In Iraq Based On The Levels Of Violence, "It's Not My Job To Specify Troop Levels.."Fosters, 11/28/07
November 2007: Obama Said U.S. Has To Make Sure "We Are Not Just Willy-Nilly Removing Troops" And That It May "Take A Little Bit Longer" In Some Areas Where There Is Less Stability. "
[New York Times, 11/1/07] November 2007: Obama: "If The Commanders Tell Me They Need X, Y And Z, In Order To Accomplish The Very Narrow Mission That I've Laid Out, Than I Will Take That Into Consideration." [New York Times, 11/1/07] September 2007: Obama Said He Believed "That We Should Have All Our Troops Out By 2013, But I Don't Want To Make Promises." [NH DNC Debate, 9/26/07]
No change on FISA
The bill he agreed to was NOT the original bill.
"It is not all that I would want. But given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as President, I will carefully monitor the program..."
No change on Capital Punishment
In fact, Obama's death-penalty stance dates back at least to 2006, when he wrote in "The Audacity of Hope" that "there are some crimes--mass murder, the rape and murder of a child--so heinous, so beyond the pale, that the community is justified in expressing the full measure of its outrage by meting out the ultimate punishment."
Obama's plan to expand President George W. Bush's efforts to "empower faith-based organizations"--characterized by liberals after it was announced last week in Zanesville, Ohio as a pander to evangelicals and a threat to the separation of church and state--is perfectly consistent with Obama's past as Christian, church-based community organizer. "Secularists are wrong when they ask believers to leave their religion at the door before entering into the public square," he said in a celebrated June 2006 speech on religion.
No change on Guns
Obama's "shift" on the D.C. handgun ban was similar. In the primaries, he wriggled out of personally weighing in on the law--again, to protect his left flank--then embraced the Supreme Court's decision striking it down. This was also about politics, not principles. But the fact remains that the ruling was not inconsistent with his long-held (if lawyerly) belief that gun ownership is an individual right that's still subject to reasonable limitations. In other words, his core stance stayed the same--even as he maneuvered for maximum political gain.
What are the qualifications you speak of, Frank?
As far as I am concerned - he has NO qualifications. So I am asking Obama supporters to educate me, since it seem to them that Hillary supporters are whiners and sore losers, even though she won more of the votes nationwide and if the primary WAS handled like the general election, winner of the state takes all delegates(just like the Republican primary) she would have trounced him. Reminds me a little of Gore v. Bush. So you explain to me why he deserves my vote??
Frank From SF,
I do not see you as a whiner Frank, I think you are very disappointed that your candidate did not win and that is very understandable. I want to be honest as I can be here. I do not know what "qualifies" anybody for the position. All I know to do is listen to what they say and determine how much of it I agree with. Then take that information and vote. What I Will say bothers me is that much of the negative comments are based on falsehoods or half truths. You wrote here that she won the popular vote. According to factcheck.com, she only wins it if you include Michigan, a state where his name was not on the ballot. Now that technicality may be enough to satisfy you, but all it says to me is that all things were not even so we will never really know. At best I would guess, it was close enough to not be a real measure. Real Clear Polls will verify this as well.
He does not deserve any vote if the person does not want him including you. I post information for those who are interested in learning helpful information that shares the errors from T.V. watching only. I will suggest that you research what Clinton and Obama stand for on the issues and what McCain stand for on the issues. Clinton and Obama are much alike. If that is not enough, there's nothing anyone can say to you as your vote is not about issues but about people.
Personally, I feel it is my responsibility to chose policy/issues when picking a president. Character is important too and as my research prove McCain has lied about his policies and issues and several times about Obamas, I know his character. In general would not have gotten my vote because again the general beliefs of his Party are not what I believe.
Furthermore, I will tell you I would have voted for Clinton as my second choice. She turned me off about the time the "Kitchen sink" expression went into effect. I did not like her choice of how to campaign. That changed my vote for her, BUT it would not have changed my vote for the Democratic Party.
Dear Jen- Thanks for your thoughtful e-mail, because Obama is different than McCain- The no other choice scenario is not good enough for me. You still have no answered the central question I have asked, what makes him qualified and why should I trust him with my vote?
Frank From SF,
I thought I answered you clearly, however, if you did not hear it, obviously it was not clear. Let me try again. No one can make you choose Obama but you. You must learn the issues and policies and determine for yourself if he is worthy of your vote. We are not your keepers. You are an adult who can make your own decisions and should do so. America will vote with or without you. You must determine if you want to be a voice or if you prefer to leave it up to others. The great thing about our system is that you have that right to make that choice. I will not be or suggest that any one be your conscience. This is your country do what you must.
Frank From SF,
What did you see as Clinton's qualifications? Or are you saying she was more qualified just to be against Obama.
guess we can kiss an investigation about Dodd's mortgage goodbye. Of course, Congress has more important things to investigate such as did an baseball player use steroids or call for impeachment of Bush and then refuse to vote on it. You would think by now the speaker of the house would reveal to the American's her energy plan she told us she had four years ago that was going to lower the price of gasoline. I guess she is waiting for a republican to come up with one for her.
Who to vote for, who do I want..... Let's put it this way....DOW down to 11,000, thousands of people laid off in NYC as a result of the stock market/DOW. Banks closing. Real Estate values falling. And, I don't know how I am going to pay for oil to heat my house this winter. If I were to have brain surgery, would I chose the experienced surgeon or the doctor still in medical school? Hmmmm, decisions, decisions.
Patricia Swicicki,
I relate to what you said on this as well. On one hand, I have a surgeon who was very good in his day. Now he is forgetful, a bit senile, and has lost some dexterity due to age. On the other hand, I have a younger, top of his class surgeon, who offers medical procedures that the old surgeon will never learn. Do I stay with the obsolete surgeon whose procedure will take weeks to heal and leaves a scar? Or do I go with the younger surgeon whose procedure will heal quickly and will not leave a scar.
Jen
First, I don't consider a young surgeon in the same class as a medical student.
Second, I never advocated a surgeon who has lost his dexterity.
That said, Would I chose the seasoned surgeon or the medical student.... let's just say I would never want to be in a teaching hospital in July or August because that is when the med students FIRST get to touch patients.
I suppose the real question is do I want a President who is going to get the majority of his experience after he enters the Presidential office? Clearly the answer is no.
Can anyone really vote for a man who stayed in a church that preaches hate words that came out of Obana"s preacher's mouth many times. He took his children to this church and they heard the hate that I heard on TV. This was the teaching of his pastor and Obama stayed there for 20 years. Why wouldn't I think this is what Obama believes if he stayed in the church for so long. I can't vote for a man who would take his children and listen to the trash that his preacher teaches.
Why would anyone vote for a man that has less experience than Bush. We are in this mess because the right wing believe anything that came out of Bush's mouth. Now the left wing is believing anything coming out of Obama's mouth, and it seems to change weekly just like Bush. Hillary was our answer, but I guess I am just bitter and cling to my guns to much to vote for Obama.
I haven't decided if I will vote in Nov. or stay home. I have voted for many presidents. I will not vote for Obama. What a mess we are in again.
From a Florida voter who's vote only counted for 1/2
The fact that a black man going to a church for years that teaches hatred and racist views is no different than a white man attending a KKK church. But, no Obama supporter really want to speak about it and even consider it an issue. But if it was a white candidate going to the KKK church then they would call him a racist and protest until he was eliminated from the campaign and apologized. Hypocritical! Just look at how quick Jesse Jackson jumped to apologize for speaking out against Obama as if it was an accident, when the accident was not what he said about wanting to cut off Obama's private parts, but the accident was that he got caught saying that into a microphone. Personally, I do not even care who Obama will pick as his running mate because I am not voting for him. As a Democrat, I am sick to death of the so called Democratic party because they do not give a hoot about the people they claim to represent. I am a black woman (I supported Hillary and now I look to vote for McCain or not vote at all). I do not support racism from any race. When Obama made his speech to black fathers about taking care of their children I thought about how one sided that speech was because dead-beat dads and mothers come from all races. Also, before he makes that kind of a speech, how about thinking about the different things that can have an influence on parenting (one parent working two jobs and still making less than $500 every two weeks before taxes, kids growing up in slummy neighborhoods and going to slummy schools and receiving a crappy education, no food in the home, drug use in the home, rapes in the home, gangs bulling your family, and etc.). People only can do what they can do with what they have but words are not a solution to a problem. Obama can not put food on your table, he can not get you the job you always wanted, he can not pay your bills, he can not protect your family, and etc. (those are our jobs as adults). He is not God and should not be treated as such.
